Welcome to the Rumour Mill, where I dig up the latest Video game related rumours and the likely hood of them being true or false.
Call Of Duty 7 will take place in Vietnam
First off is one rumour that’s being getting a bit of a revival, mainly by word of mouth from COD players. People all over the world, play and talk about Modern Warfare 2 each day so it’s natural that at some point rumours would be created. Well, this one dates all the way back to May 2009, before Modern warfare 2 was even released. Apparently Activision has or had been buying the rights for Vietnam and Soviet Russia themed musical scores to use in an upcoming project. So this indicates that the next Call of Duty game will take place in Vietnam.
Official Story:
Activison or Infinity Ward have got rights to Vietnam and Soviet Russia themed Musical scores but this doesn’t mean it’s for the newest installment of Call of Duty. Infinity Ward and Activision have other projects to work on, which means any of those music scores could be used in those games.
Infinity Ward even stated shortly after the release of “Modern Warfare 2” that “Right now we don’t have a clue what our next game is going to be, and we won’t know what it will be until we finish with Modern Warfare 2, which won’t be for a while.” Infinity Ward have still been working on Modern Warefare 2, sorting out glitchs and bugs, and releasing new downloadable content. Since this rumour has been around for awhile, I’m going to say it’s a possibility that the next game could be set in Vietnam; but it’s also a possibility it won’t. Until Activision state otherwise, no one will know for sure.
PS3 is getting exclusive gun controller for Modern Warfare 2
I hear this all the time by people, mainly by PS3 fanboys. When I was first told of this rumour, I straight away thought “does he just mean a light gun?” he then told me “The controller will cost £150 because it’s that good.” Now I wouldn’t have thought anything of it, but then I heard it again and again by different people.
Official Story:
Ok, there may be Light Gun controllers that are compatible with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but why would you want to use a Light Gun? From what I can find, there isn’t a PS3 exclusive “gun controller” that is going to cost over a hundred pound coming out, and there most likely never will be. The only logical explanation is that someone got confused when they read the description for “Madcatz’s Wireless Combat Controller” where it states “Pistol textured side grips” although how dumb can you get, really?
Star Wars: The Old Republic will be on the Xbox 360
With the Xbox 360 gaining Final Fantasy XIII many 360 owners are wondering what other RPG’s may be coming to their beloved console. Well according to UK video game retailer “GAME” Star Wars: The Old Republic is the next big RPG on the 360. On GAME’s new Xbox 360 release schedule, it listed “Star Wars: The Old Republic” as “TBC 2011”. This made many 360 owners excited since it’s supposed to be a PC exclusive.
Official Story:
This rumour was shot down very quickly by BioWare as news hit the official website of “Star Wars: The Old Republic” of the apparent 360 version getting a release date. BioWare’s community manager, Sean Dahlberg, states “Star Wars: The Old Republic is currently being developed for the personal computer (PC) using the Microsoft Windows operating system. While we recognize that there are other operating systems and platforms available for games today, our development is specific to the personal computer using the Windows operating system at this time.” So it looks like there are no plans for a 360 version at the moment.
Persona 5 is going to be exclusive on the PS3
In a recent interview with Japanese magazine “Dengeki PlayStation”, Producer of Persona 3 & Persona 4; Katsura Hashino stated, “We are preparing to start work on the next Persona.” He didn’t mention which console, but a few days later an accidental announcement was apparently made from a pachinko industry publication claiming that “A consumer announcement of PS3 exclusive Persona 5 is scheduled.”
Official Story:
The Pachinko Industry, who made the so called announcement recently, struck a deal for a “Megami Tensei” themed pachinko machine. And since it’s the Pachinko Industry who made the announcement, not Atlus themselves, it’s more than likely that Persona 5 will be a Sony exclusive. But nothing is certain as of yet. Atlus also has a good relationship with Nintendo, granted not as tight as the friendship between Atlus and Sony, but still, there could always be a Persona 5 on the Wii.
Microsoft is going to release a”Slim” version of the Xbox 360
Two weeks ago, a Chinese internet message board posting “top secret” information that the Xbox 360 will be getting a slim model, similar to the PS3 Slim. As much as it makes sense for Microsoft to release a slim edition, they didn’t last generation when the PS2 had its slim model released. However, Dutch video game site “Game Kings” claims to have this 360 slim model, and even shows a picture of it. The Dutch video game site, also says the slim 360 is codenamed “Napoleon”. Judging from the picture, “Game Kings” posted, it seems the slim model doesn’t have changeable faceplates or the ability to attach an external hard drive.
Official Story:
A lot of rumors concerning an Xbox 360 Slim have been popping up for awhile, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Microsoft announce a slim at E3 this year. However, is this the same 360 slim pictured above? No. First off, why would Microsoft create a slim version and lose some of the original features that a lot of 360 owners like? Faceplates are loved by those that like to customize their console without too much hassle. And the external hard drive is a must for those with tons of data.
The so called “Xbox 360 slim” in that picture is more than likely, the now discontinued Xbox 360 HD DVD player on its side. Since Game Kings never showed a overview picture or any other shots of the “slim”, that’s my bet. (Perhaps an early April Fools joke?) Maybe Microsoft is making a slim 360, but we’ll have to wait till E3 to find out.

That so called Xbox 360 Slim picture has to be the most blatant fake ever.

I would both love and hate a vietnam CoD game, love the concept and the potential, hate the fact I’d have to like a CoD game…
