It’s that time of year again. E3 2010 is less than a week away and it’s going to have a lot of great things for gamers. Let’s take a quick look at what we have coming up.
Every E3 is exciting, but this year is looking to be one of the best in recent E3 history. The Big Three (Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo) will be showing off their new hardware and hyping us up for their newest games. As if we didn’t have enough games to play, right?
Microsoft and Sony are sure to display their answers to the Nintendo Wii’s motion controller. Sony will have the opportunity to show us more of the PS Move, which was first shown to us back in March.
Microsoft has Project Natal, which has many of us excited about the possibilities of turning our bodies into a controller using the camera-based system. Hopefully it fulfills its potential. We’ve seen video camera concepts (like Sony’s EyeToy) which haven’t really turned into anything special.
Nintendo is also releasing more hardware with the new 3DS handheld. Nintendo claims it can produce 3D effects without the need of any special glasses. Besides that, tentative plans include a 3D joystick, force feedback, and a built-in accelerometer to add tilt controls to games.
Besides hardware, there are a ton of fantastic games on the lineup. We’re talking about Killzone 3, Gears of War 3, Metroid: Other M, Halo: Reach, Dead Space 2, Marvel vs Campcom 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops and so many others.
Valve has enamoured our thoughts with talks of Portal 2, the sequel to one of the best puzzle-action games of all time. Valve hasn’t shared much information yet, but there have been talks of new features like online co-op and the ability to change the game by using a paint item which alters the physics and properties of things around you in the environment. It sounds very intriguing!
Another one that’s sure to be popular is Halo: Reach. I spent some time with the beta a few weeks ago and so did millions of others. Although the beta wasn’t perfect, gamers overall felt pleased and are looking forward to the next installment in the Halo franchise.

Project Natal seems like a cross between the Eye Toy and that old Sega Activator. Hopefully, it will be more useful than those though. Same with the 3DS. I can’t help but think of the Virtual Boy when I see it.

What I’m MOST interested in, and will be grounds for me to buy a new 360 is NHL11. I mean it’ll feature CHL teams which includes the 3 leagues of: OHL, QMJHL, AND WHL (Ontario Hockey League, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, and the Western Hockey League). As such I’ll be able to play as my hometown Oshawa Generals. I also like the new hitting engine that’s been added which has it so no 2 hits are the same. So if you hit a guynear the bench where the glass starts he’ll bounce off it (hard to explain, but VERY cool). Ability to break sticks should also be interesting depending how often it happens. (Too much would be lame).
So that’s what I’m looking forward to this year lol
