Angry Birds is a popular game that is sweeping the nation. It was originally developed as a Smartphone app for the iPhone in 2009 by Rovio Mobile. Since its release, the game has grown in popularity and inspired online flash versions of the game to develop.

History:

The history of Angry Birds started with a simple drawing of upset looking birds in a sling shot that did not have any legs. From the characters, the game was developed in 2009. It was originally released to the iPhone and iPod Touch, but has gradually spread to other Smartphone apps since its first release.

Online Game Play:

The online version of Angry Birds and the various special releases of the game are a type of flash game format. Like the mobile version of the game, players pull the slingshot loaded with a bird back and release the bird to attack the pigs hidden in their fortress.

The online game uses the computer mouse to grab the slingshot and release the bird. The mouse drags a hand over to the sling shot and a left click will grab the slingshot. Players then hold the left click and move the mouse to position and aim the shot. Releasing the left click will send the bird flying into the pigs.

Different Versions:

Like the mobile apps, the online flash versions of Angry Birds have numerous play options available. Newer versions of the game, such as Angry Birds Rio or Angry Birds Magic are available online as a flash game.

The different versions of the game follow a similar format as the original game, but have different themes in the background. For example, the season’s version has Halloween themed levels, Christmas themed levels and other holiday themes. The birds, pigs and background follow the spirit of the holiday the levels are designed after.

The Angry Birds Rio game online is similar to the mobile version of the game. The birds interact with the characters from Rio and it takes place in the various locations throughout the movie.

Conclusion:

The online flash version of the Angry Birds games offers hours of entertainment. The puzzle game is simple enough for almost any age while getting increasingly more difficult to solve. The cute characters along with the fun story make this game fun for all ages. The numerous awards and the high public interest in the game proves that the game that came out in 2009 continues to top the charts for the best puzzle game available for apps and online.

Released in August of 1997 – Goldeneye 007 was an instant mega video game hit and received rave reviews from video game players from all over the country. Goldeneye was a first person view action game based on the James Bond movie which was also called Goldeneye and it called for sleep-overs, birthday parties, and the ultimate hang out sessions for kids of all ages.

Some of the best memories of many children during their years growing up were spent with their friends and for a lot of people in the late nineties that meant playing video games into the waking hours of the night with their best buddies. Whenever you talk about all the video games that everyone loved to play together, Goldeneye always gets brought up. In fact it is all over best all time video game lists from major companies.

The video game features an amazing first person mode, and even more amazing multiplayer capabilities – and it was fun playing it on a little box of a TV let alone a high tech Vizio. It was way ahead of its time and you could select from multiple different levels and multiple characters. It had a very cool selection of weapons and you always knew it was going to be a fun game and that it was going down when “proximity mines” were selected in the “Complex” – everyone had their own favorite tool, level, and character of choice – it’s what made the game so fun.

The ongoing joke about the game is that no one could be “Odd Job” as when you were that person you had the distinct version of being half of everyone else’s size – making you a very hard target.

Although it was originally a game for Nintendo 64 – a game that sold more than 8 million copies – it was so good that another version of the game was released in 2010 for the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo DS. This video is a trailer for that game – and it in a panel of game players were asked what makes the game a classic and so likeable to which they replied:

“It was the first game where I could sit down and play the multiplayer part for 4 hours straight.”

and…

“You can ask me at any time to play a game of Goldeneye and I would be down.”

The panel also unanimously agreed that it was the best shooter game in video game history – which many Americans would also say. If you haven’t played Goldeneye (well then you must be either very young or very old or just absolutely hate video games) then I suggest you get on eBay or Craigslist and find a cheap N64 and do so quickly – you won’t regret it!

——————————

It’s crazy to think, but the Pokémon franchise has been a part of our pop culture lexicon for fifteen years now. You know all the little kids who started playing when they were six or seven? Well, they’re old enough to go to the bars now – and, to be honest, a lot of them are probably still playing Pokémon. Fans of the game have multiple opportunities to compete with their well-crafted teams all over the country throughout the year. There are official tournaments, local organizations, and fan-created leagues. Sound like something you’re interested in? Here is some information on a few types of Pokémon competitions:

Pokémon cards of the three starters from the Black and White deck.

POKEMON TCG NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) Championship Series runs for almost a full year – it begins in September and culminates with the World Championship event in August. The first tier of the competition is known as Battle Road. That’s followed by events for city and state championships and then a national event. After that comes the World Championships, where winners from Asia and Europe also compete. There are three divisions in this tournament, organized by age: junior, senior and masters.

POKEMON VIDEO GAME CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2011 Pokémon Video Game Championship (VGC) is already underway. The first of the six regional events took place on May 14 and the Last Chance Qualifier is on July 8 in Indiana. Players competing in the VGC craft their own six-Pokémon team and battle with their Nintendo DS over infrared connections. Prizes aren’t announced yet for the World Championship event, but some national-level prizes include a medal, a Nintendo 3DS, and airfare plus accommodations for the World Championship, which takes place mid-August in San Diego.

ORGANIZED PLAY

There are many fans of the Pokémon trading card game that hold local tournaments for players who don’t necessarily want to join an official competition. These events tend to be more casual and are aimed at all levels of players. They usually take place at a community center, comic book shop, library, or other public places. Leaders of these leagues can register through the Pokémon website and receive licensed advertising materials, foil cards to use as prizes, and official scorecards. These leagues meet once a week and the cycles last one year, with eight seasons. People interested in this type of Pokémon play can visit the official website’s event locator to find a league near them.

GREY LEAGUE

The Grey League is fan-created Pokémon competition from the makers of Pokémon Podcast. The goal of this online-only competition is to recreate the gym battles from the video games. Eight gym leaders were selected for interested players to face off against for the chance to win. Upon beating each gym leader, challengers win a badge. If all eight gyms are defeated, the challenger is sent a prize pack. All of the battles are conducted using a Nintendo DS, the Pokémon Black and White game, and a wireless internet connection. Click here for more information on The Grey League!

For those of you who are still curious about how a few things work, visit the official Pokémon site or search YouTube for TCG or VGC. There are plenty of videos online of exciting battles in championships!

We all have characters in games we don’t like, but these are my least favorite of all of them, they prove themselves to be almost useless, and extremely annoying.

5. Mario Auditore (Assassins Creed 2/Brotherhood)

“Don’t you recognize me? It’s a-me, Mario”. I don’t think the leader of the Assassin Order should say things that him or her into a joke on the internet. At the beginning of Assassins Creed Brotherhood Mario promises Ezio that he would protect the apple at any cost. When the Borgia attack the cannons which Mario installed fail to protect the friendly forces, Mario loses the apple and gets shot in the head.

4. G-Unit (50 Cent Blood on the Sand)

You think that having your own personal army to help you fight will give you a great advantage. Unfortunately you are wrong. Three members of the G-Unit have some fighting skills, the others have the skills to open doors for you. They’re polite, but it’s not very helpful when you’re trying to fend off hordes of arabs to get a “diamond-and-pearl encrusted human skull”….. What? I don’t know either.

3. Ice Climbers (Ice Climber)

Their point? They don’t have one. They climb glaciers and mountains. What do they do this for? To get vegetables that were taken by a giant condor.

2. Adoring Fan (Oblivion Elder Scrolls)

I had done it, I had become the grand champion in the arena. I was hoping for some major street cred, I was walking around when I heard ”By Azura! By Azura! By Azura! It’s the Grand Champion, I can’t believe it’s you! Standing here, next to me.” This began a heated rivalry which would rock the world of Oblivion. I figured I could use some help when I was in fights, right when a brown bear decides to attack he runs away. Damn you Adoring Fan, damn you.

1. Navi (Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)

Everyone else gets a normal companion fairy, and I get the worst one. Navi is supposed to help me beat Gannon, but mostly all she does is say “HEY, LISTEN” and provides me with mostly useless information which distracts me from oncoming monsters which kill me.

After 15 years of waiting, Duke Nukem Forever was finally released in June. The game has had a troublesome childhood, and many have grown out of childhood waiting for it to finally be released. Unfortunately, it seems as though many gamers and game reviewers do not think too highly of it. Dated graphics, choppy gameplay, and crude, poorly executed humor are just a few of the complaints lodged against it.

Anyway, if you still want to try it but want to wait for that $59 price tag to come down a bit, here are ten other things you can buy with your DNF money.

1. 12 Megapixel Digital Camera with HD Video Recording

Yes, for as much as it costs for that one game, you can take millions of photos of trees and cats in brilliant 12 megapixel resolution, with the added bonus of recording HD videos as well.

2. Two Summer Dresses

No doubt, there are plenty of single summer dresses you could buy for $59, but you are obviously a girl (or guy, if that’s your thing) who likes deals. Two $29 dresses will fit you just fine and have you ready to start summer in style.

3. Roald Dahl 16-Book Box Set

Nothing says summer like a good book, and with this 16-book box set, you will undoubtedly find better humor than Duke Nukem could ever conjure from his pixelated mouth. You have probably already read or seen the movies of classics like Matilda, The BFG, James and the Giant Peach, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This set has them all.

4. An Economy Box of 192 Diapers

Who needs a summer dress or books to read when you were a kid when you have kids of your own? Diapers are expensive, and although Duke Nukem has a potty mouth, he will not help you potty train your tykes. With one DNF credit, you can get a box of 192 diapers.

5. A Full Tank of Gas (maybe)

This one is subject to change and depends on how much of a gas hog your car is, but you might be able to get a full tank with $59 and actually go somewhere this summer instead of sitting at home playing video games.

6. Standard VPS Hosting from virtual dedicated hosting provider 34SP.com

Now is the time to launch your own family of websites, all dedicated to bashing Duke Nukem Forever and praising the Duke games that came before it.

7. A 10-Piece Stainless Steel Knife Set

Unleash the culinary genius inside yourself with a new knife set. Imagine having good food that you cut yourself instead of a $60 game you wish you could cut to pieces.

8. Dinner for Two (with dessert) at Sylvia’s Queen of Soul Food Restaurant in Harlem

Planning on going to Harlem or live there already? With $59 you can get more than your fair share of appetizers, meals, and desserts at this lovely soul food restaurant. Yes, I was hungry when I wrote this.

9. One Air Jordan Shoe

Sorry, if you really want to be like Mike, you will need more than $59, but at least half of you can be like him, assuming you can find some sucker on eBay to sell you one shoe. Hey, stranger things have happened. What are you waiting for? Get hopping!

10. 59 Mp3 Songs

Is this even a choice: Duke Nukem Forever or enough Prince songs to last you until the next Duke release? You make the call.

OK, so some of you will probably still want Duke Nukem Forever no matter what alternatives I offer you. After all, you likely waited half of your life to play it. Go ahead, but just remember this article when you are at the world’s largest cheese factory wishing you had a 12 megapixel camera.

———————

Tavis J. Hampton is the executive editor of All Blogs Considered, serious news for serious idiots. He has been waiting for Duke Nukem Forever for all of his adult life.

The second half of 2011 is shaping up to be a stellar year in the gaming world, here’s a list of some games to look forward to in the months of august to December in this year.

Dead Island (PS3, X360, PC): This is a game that I’m really excited about, it’s like Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead came together and had a baby. The player takes on the role of one of four survivors stranded on a resort island that has been overrun with the living dead. It is a first person action game, just like Left 4 Dead and players can pick up weapons and combine them and upgrade their strength. The graphics are beautiful and the Island of Banoi is quite an impressive spectacle. Players can join each other’s games online (4 players max). Comes out on September 6th.

Resistance 3 (PS3 Exclusive): This FPS game picks up four years after the conclusion of Resistance 2 and the player steps into the shoes of Sentinel Joseph Capelli. The game takes place in an alternate version of the 1950’s in which America has been taken and destroyed by the brutal Chimeran alien race. In addition to the single player campaign, there will also be two-player split screen and two-player online co-op through the campaign. It also includes 16 online versus. PS3 owners will want to check this game out. Comes out September 6th.

Gears of War 3 (X360 Exclusive): It has been 18 months since the fall of the last human city and the war between the humans and locusts continues. Sad to say it, but this will be the last Gears game, but it looks like they’re going out with a bang. Includes a single player campaign and online versus modes, I got my hands on the beta and I was impressed to say the least, this is a must buy for fans of the series and newbies alike. Releases on September 20th.

Silent Hill: Downpour (PS3,X360): I’m glad to see that the Silent Hill franchise is going back to its roots. The past few games in the franchise have been mediocre, including onslaughts of grainy meat bags which hurl themselves at you. This game has a boost in graphics and story alike, the horror/thriller genre has had a dry spell for a while now on the consoles, and fans of the original games will want to check this game out. Comes out in October.

Batman: Arkham City (PS3,X360,PC): Sequel to the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum, the Dark Knight is back with a vengeance out to kick some bad guy ass. Cat Woman is also a playable character in the single player story. Rocksteady has said that a lot has changed in this game, Arkham City is a whopping five times the size of Arkham Asylum, there is a wider array of characters in the story, and now there are interrogations (Splinter cell?). Comes out on October 18th.

Battlefield 3 (PS3,X360,PC): If I were ranking the games that I was looking forward to the most, Battlefield 3 would be at the top of the list. Boasting the Frostbite 2 engine, top of the line graphics, and the enjoyment of reducing a building to rubble with your weapons. I can’t really give any reason why you wouldn’t get this game, EA and DICE have really upped the ante this time around with another single player and competitive multiplayer with up to 24 versus online. Comes out October 25th, mark you calendar.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (PS3,X360,PC): If this game is comes even close to its predecessor in quality and fun, then this is a must buy. A great RPG franchise already, this new addition to the series will hopefully live up to it’s franchises’ caliber. People who buy this can look forward to great DLC, which Bethesda is excellent with. This game releases on November 11th.

Honorable Mentions:
Uncharted 3 (PS3): November 1st
Forza 4 (X360): Fall
Mass Effect 3 (PS3,X360,PC): Unknown 2011
Star Wars Old Republic (PC): Unknown 2011
The Last Guardian (PS3): Unknown 2011
Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii): Unknown 2011

Nintendo’s previous consoles have been thrashed for not being able to run this game engine. This may drastically change Nintendo’s third party support.

Gaming has long been perceived to be a male activity and even today, with supposed gender equality, there are far more male gamers than female gamers. With major publishers like Activision citing females as unpopular heroines in games despite the popularity of Lara Croft and Samus Aran, it is little wonder females are so reluctant to get into the world of gaming. However, for the small percentage of females that do game and love it, there is an entirely new set of challenges to face.

Lara Croft, popular video game heroine

The problem with online gaming and females is that most male gamers are ready to label female gamers with a certain stereotype before even playing a round or doing a few quests. Male perceptions of females in games have been honed over the last few years, so much so that most males are either openly hostile towards female gamers, or they are outstandingly creepy. Male stereotypes applied to female gamers are as follows:

The Attention Whore

This stereotype is most commonly associated with MMORPG games, such as World of Warcraft. Males feel like females create drama within these games and so men who play these games nearly semi-professionally tend to avoid games. In fact, some of the top guilds in the world bar female players because of the illusion of being drama queens.

This stereotype can be extended somewhat to the world of first person shooters, where females are consider ‘mic spammers’ and drama queens. Females that incessantly whine about being shot in these games are the main type of ‘attention whore’.

The Girl Gamer

Legitimate female gamers find this to be the hardest stereotype to overcome, because it is a persona adopted by females who would not normally be interested in gaming, but enjoy the attention lavished on them by male gamers. Most girl gamers are rabid first person shooter players, with Halo often being their poison of choice. Girl gamers rarely play any other genre of game and so they are easily identified by their foul language and ‘hanging with the boys’ flirting attitude.

Class & Gender Stereotypes

Stereotypes are not the only challenges faced by female gamers in online gaming. Even female gamers who have earned the respect of their male counterparts are often relegated to tasks that are considered feminine. If a healer is needed for the group, often males believe the female should take up this mantle. If there is a character that has been labeled as “easy to play”, most males leave said character to the females and by the same token, if a cast of characters features a female, then the female is expected to play that character.

This class and gender stereotyping can be infuriating for female gamers, as not every female wants to play the healer, nor do they want to be the female character in games simply because they are a female in life.

——————————

Miles Walker usually writes about the best place to get an auto insurance comparison over at CarInsuranceComparison.Org. He recently looked at cheap car insurance.

People have predicted it would happen for a while now and it has finally arrived, paying for online multiplayer. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 features free multiplayer but also offers a new service called Call of Duty: Elite. Call of Duty: Elite cost money but tracks your stats, your game results, helps you set up games between your “clan” and other teams, and other services. Mortal Kombat also makes players pay for online fights, players must purchase a “Kombat Pass” for 800 Microsoft Points and it isn’t optional. With you having to pay for that and a gold membership (if you own an xbox) the costs can really start to add up.

EA Sports is also has decided to follow in their footsteps making players buy an “EA Sports Pass” to use the online features of the very popular sports games they make.

But the question I’m asking is, what do you think?

Many people are against this idea for the reason that they think multiplayer should be free, because it always has been, but if it is a one time payment to get access to all the online features and maybe more (in the case of COD:Elite) and will help the company recoup any losses during the general release and help to fund future DLC’s, though I doubt Modern Warfare 3 will have to worry about any losses.
