I loved Donkey Kong Country so much. I beat it multiple times. The friend I played co-op with was always Diddy and so I was always DK. I remember being amazed by the graphics too. Heck, I still think they look pretty nice. I like the style.

The sequels were good and didn't give me any headaches, although I only played for a couple hours of DKC2. At that time, it was too hard for me. The first boss pissed my young mind off enough that I never went back and tried again. I tried DKC3 and it seemed like more of the same. I've been meaning to go back one day and complete all those games, but of course I've never got around to it. Anyway, those games, especially the first, were platforming gold.

I remember Sonic 3D Blast got great reviews from the magazines when it was released, but with time I think people saw how it didn't really compare to the 2D Sonics. I also thought parts of it were too difficult.

You actually had a Sega CD? Those things were expensive! Did you ever get the 32X? Virtua Racing was amazing (back then).

Donkey Kong Country was a beautiful looking game when it came out.

I have a lot of classic games I liked. Believe it or not, and this is the honest truth– I carry a list of my favorite classic games on me at all times.

I drew up this list back when I was working some sweet job in 99 where I got paid alot to do nothing except look busy.

Here is some of the list:

Pac Man- Arcade

Tetris- Gameboy

Super Mario Bros – NES

Super Mario Bros 2 – NES

Super Mario Bros 3- NES

Castlevania- NES

Castlevania III – NES

TMNT II – NES

Contra- NES

Mike Tyson's Punch Out- NES

Kung Fu- NES

Double Dragon- NES

The Legend of Zelda – NES
Skate or Die – NES

Sonic the Hedgehog- Genesis

Mutant League Football- Genesis

Streets of Rage II – Genesis

Flashback – Genesis

Hard Drivin – Genesis

ToeJam and Earl – Genesis

Super Mario World SNES

Final Fight – SNES

Wolfenstein 3D – PC

F-Zero – NES

Super Contra – SNES

Super Castlevania IV – SNES

The Legend of Zelda – SNES

Super Mario All Stars – SNES

Super Smash TV – SNES

John Madden Football – SNES

Wing Commander – SNES

Street Fighter II – Arcade

Street FIghter II – SNES

Street Fighter II Champion Edition – Arcade

Street Fighter II Turbo – SNES

Super Street Fighter II – SNES

Captain Commando – Arcade

NHL 94 – SNES

Donkey Kong Country – SNES

Starfox – SNES

Super Baseball Simulator 2000 – SNES

The list goes on to newer stuff but I think this is the period this thread is aiming for.

Nice job keeping with the thread there. But I cant really tell where the classics stopped.. It seems that even the PS1 and Nintedo 64 are becoming classics….hmmm So when do the classics end?

They never end. As time goes on, the present becomes the past, and the New becomes the Classic.

Yeah, I owned a Sega CD. Cost me nearly $400. I wanted to get the original one that was made for the original Genesis, but by early 1994, all they sold were the side-CD ones. Luckily, Sega included an extention thing for the tray-type part so my old-style Genesis would fit. I remember there being some inconveniences, though. Having the having the Genesis MK 1601, I had to plug this cord into the headphone jack, turn the volume on it all the way up, and the wire ran around into the back of the Sega CD. Still, wasn't a totally bad deal. The Sega CD brought me years of joy.

Here's what I had for the Sega CD:

Sewer Shark (Pack-in game)

Sonic CD

Cobra Command

Secret of Monkey Island

Mortal Kombat CD

Eternal Champions CD

I think your getting confused between "Retro games" and a "Classic game".

Well anyone play the atari? Im talking like pong and frogger. I recently went to my grandparents house and saw that they had one that works that has pitfall and even older classics than my classics.

If you ever played a classics' classic share your expierences here.

Recenly when I played frogger and pong I realized how simple entertainment really is sometimes. Makes me want to buy it from them and play it all the time.

Strange…Confused

I’ve got a couple of Atari 2600s, Atari games are just too primitive to be entertaining for very long. IMO.

My favorite classic game is Commander Keen 4

And I don’t know if they’re old enough to be classic but

Heart of Darkness and the first 2 Oddworld games are totally awesome!

I believe that the two oddworlds would be considered "retro" games or so death hormone claims. In my opinion to some people playstation games are classics and to others they arent. Matter of opinion I guess.

Alright I think we should start a poll.. over what system to date is it still a classic and what isnt. Is playstation/nintendo 64/ whatever else that came out that year too new to call a classic or isnt it? Post yes or no. Or somehow someone make a poll on it.

As far as systems go, I think the original Playstation and the N64 would be considered classics. I usually consider anything at least 2 generations down to be classics, as long as they were decent. I would also consider the Dreamcast a classic. The last generation to be are yet to be classics but will be very soon.

Although the real meaning for classic is basically anything great that will be remembered. Some may argue that even the Wii, 360 and PS3 are classics. It's really all about what you make it. But most of us are guilty of throwing the word around. Classic is usually associated with something old, yet good. But that's not it's actual definition.

As for games, I go more with the real definition of classic. Super Mario Bros. (because it was so great, everyone knows about it) is a classic, but Bubsy (it wasn't so great and a lot of peop don't know what it is) is not. a classic. Although i actually wasn't that bad of a game from what I can remember.

I don't like any of the FF games, just not my style there are literally no J-RPGs I like.

I like Bubsy, There are certainly better side scrollers out there but it’s pretty good.

Well then in that case I consider the first 3 spyro games to be classics they were well known and good for my age group at the time. I would also like to consider Crash Bandicoots games also classics. Another good game for the age group at my time and well known. Both series were fun to play and yet challenging.
