Yeah the coming out of nowhere thing was the same with me. I always assumed that Uncharted was just another run-of-the-mill Tomb Raider style action series, at least I never really saw any advertising or anything. I only really came across it after seeing a cinematic style demo in a store a couple of weeks after release and only actually got a copy a few days ago. It has that slightly tongue in cheek vibe of Indiana Jones, a pretty nice plotline and some excellent set-pieces. At times it gave me that same feeling I got exploring dungeons in 3D for the first time in Zelda: Ocarina of Time, even though you're ultimately on a linear path it feels open and vibrant. I suppose you could say it has a sense of grandeur, probably referring to a couple of moments in particular.
Single player is the obvious major feature, even though it could possibly have been a couple of hours longer, but the success of the application of the single player mechanics to multiplayer came as another surprise. I'm pretty damn hooked on the multiplayer modes now. :P
P.S. Which Borderlands are we talking about? I have it on Xbox, not played for a while though. Should finish that sometime.

Devil Dancer has a 360, so it's most likely the Xbox version.

I've been playing mostly Demon Souls and Uncharted 2 lately. It took me about a month to get into Demon Souls from the time I bought it, and when I got hooked I got really hooked. I've got around 175 hours invested into it now.
Uncharted 2 I've just been going through my long overdue second playthrough. It's a thoroughly enjoyable single player experience; the multiplayer is good too, but I've barely given it a chance, I'm picky with multiplayer– I barely take advantage of it in most games (Demon Souls being one of the few).

Is the multiplayer like head-to-head or is it cooperative?

haha buy it from me dude.
That game sucks so much life out of me it's practically retarded. It is impossible to get everything do to the fact that nothing is where it should be and where it should be is nothing. Dosn't make sence huh.

Uncharted 2, was that the one with the Marco Polo thing? If so, it has amazing voice acting.
And if it's not Uncharted 2, I don't remember what the name was.

I'd really like to play Demon's Souls sometime, slightly peeved that there are no plans to release it in the UK.
@Naoko: Yeah, that's the one. They're following Polo's trail to try and find the Cintamani Stone.

Starting tomorrow I will be playing Mass Effect 2.. Sadly me playing this game will mean less time on here if there is any time on here. But I'll be here on the weekend and hopefully have something awesome to say about it.

As General Vulture can attest, I have what I call "Gamer-Based ADD". It's never just one game with me; it's many. Actually, I am on Adderall XR, so perhaps there is some ADD/ADHD in me. Anyway, here's how I've been getting my game-on:
Gran Turismo (PSP)
F1 2009 (PSP)
DiRT 2 (PSP)
NASCAR (PSP)
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror Demo (PSP)
Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow Demo (PSP)
F1 2002 (PS2)
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 (PS2)
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 (GCN)
Note: The reason I listed Hot Pursuit 2 twice instead of once with "(PS2/GCN)" after it is because, if you've never played one version or the other, they're quite different. Although the overall pieces are the same, they are set up far differently. Many of the mechanics of the games are different. It's hard to say which of the two versions is better.
Graphics — The XBox/GCN version can reach a higher framerate than the PS2 version, but the PS2 version maintains a steady 30fps. Also, the XCube version has brighter, richer colors (especially "Fall Winds" circuit), but looks more like an acrylic painting; whereas the PS2 version has a somewhat-drabber-yet more realistic look.
Gameplay — The PS2 version allows you two different types of handling: Classic and Extreme. Classic makes the car a bit easier to control — mainly for novices — where Extreme makes the handling much looser; thus allowing the experienced gamer the ability to take corners at a higher speed. The XCube version does not. The PS2 version gives you the option to turn damage off in single-race mode. The XCube version does not.
Mechanics — The unlock system is possibly the most significant difference. To unlock cars, tracks, etc, in the PS2 game: complete level/tier of branching World Tour or Hot Pursuit Mode. Example: Looking at a locked car/track on the PS2 version, a message will tell you what you need to do to access said car/track. The XCube version simply lets you rack up as many points as you can, and then BUY everything you want with the points you accumulated in…any race. Lastly, once a car is unlocked in the PS2 version, you can select different color paint schemes for the car. Not so in the XCube version. YUCK! I have two McLaren's: the F1 and F1 LM. The F1 is purple (black is what I use in the PS2 version) and the F1 LM is an ugly diarrhea-green (I use either blue or red).
Miscellaneous — The courses are laid out quite differently on both versions. In saying that, I like the PS2's version of Fall Winds better than the XCube's version. Also, when selecting the number of laps — PS2: 2,4,6,8. XCube: 2,3,4,5,6,7,8.
On balance: I guess I'd have to say I like the PS2 version better.

Don’t you feel that you lose skill switching between the different driving games, since they all handle a little differently and (may) have different button placement?

That used to happen, but not so much anymore. A great example was Robotech: Battlecry and Bloodwake. Although one dealt with boats, and the other, variable fighters, the two were so close control-wise, I would stumble if I switched between them.
The biggest issue I have is with more "technical" games. You know, the ones that start you out on a "training level" to teach you how to do this with various buttons, and other mechanics in the gameplay. Likewise, if it's a big game with multiple objectives, and you're always following orders, I can get lost. I'll go too long without playing, and when I finally do play, I forget where I left off and what I was supposed to do and where to go. (I haven't played FF-III for NDS in a long time, and the last time I fired it up, I had no clue where to go. I didn't remember what I'd done prior.)

Right now I'm playing FFVIII, it's a wonderful game. I am just dissapointed to the fact that I'm a theif and there aren't really items to find; just items that make your GF stonger or give you magic. That is fail to the max.

I didn't really like what I saw of borderlands……. I'm not sure why.
I guess it might be because I'm an RPG fan?
